Bloody Mary Drink – Vodka mixed drinks

One of the oldest and most famous vodka cocktails in the United States was the bloody mary drink and its popularity reigns even today. The smooth texture of vodka and a good mix of tomatoes with other ingredients make bloody mary a unique, tasteful and colorful cocktail. It is very appropriately used – as an after tea and before dinner drink, with snacks and over a brunch.

Like almost all cocktails, BM has no dearth of history and origin facts attached to it. It is widely believed that BM was a signature drink served in at a bar named Bucket of Blood in 1920s, some claim it is named after the Queen Mary. However, there are two stories which are more accepted as the origin of this savage name. One’s details being that the drink was created by a songwriter who was also a producer – Mr. George Jesse. G. Jessel was a model of the Smirnoff ads and he pronounced himself the inventor and creator of this cocktail drink. In 1939, the New York Herald had a column written by Lucius Beebe who claimed that bloody mary was the most recent attraction – which is an exotic blend of vodka and tomato juice.

The other claim re its origin and history is that – A bartender of American origin working in Harry’s New York Bar in the nineteen’s in Paris. He initially used to serve the drinks with tomato juice and tomato but the Petiot brought about a makeover in the recipe of this BM drink. He added Worcestershire, Tabasco sauce, pepper and spiced up its taste for the Americans or to be specific, for the New Yorkers. Petiot, the American bartender at Bucket of Blood named it as BM. He said his customers came up with this name bloody mary as it reminded them of the club bar.

The classic bloodymary recipe

Just as there are as many recipes of roasting chicken as the number of women in the world, so goes the same for recipes for BM drinks. There are as many recipes as the bartenders. Here is a classic and a basic one.

3 ounces tomato juice
2 ounces vodka
2 drops Tabasco sauce
½ ounce lemon juice
3 measures of Worcestershire sauce
Black pepper and Salt

Give it all a good shake, if you like you can use a shaker with ice. Strain and pour it in a glass (high ball glass) Garnish it with a celery stalk or a wedge of a lemon. You may

also use your imagination and satisfy your own taste by using different ingredients for garnishing such as – mushrooms, cheese, pickles, pickled onions, shrimps, salami, your favorite vegetables etc.

With this basic recipe you can have many variations. One quality of BM is– that it is very versatile and lends its flavors to many variations. Different vodkas or even different base spirits can be used to make different concoctions. One can use lime juice instead of lemon, tomato juice can be replaced by Clamato, and some may like to add a teaspoon or two of horseradish to the cocktail. Non drinkers can have without any base liquor.

Bacardi Drinks

Bacardi is a good and a famous family drinks. Currently, it has its headquarters in Bermuda in Hamilton and its maximum produce comes from Puerto Rico. Bacardi is a family owned but the largest privately held company dealing in Alcohol. They are basically producers of Rums. This liquor business is the 4th largest of its kind in the world. It has a strong hold over 170 countries and sells more than 240 million bottles per annum. Some of Bacardi’s regular stock market floats have drastically fallen down in 2000.

Originally, Bacardi family business was founded by Mr. Don Facundo Bacardi Masso in the year 1862, in Santiago de Cuba. In the 19th century, rum was not referred to as a refined and smooth drink. It was never considered as a refined drink in that century and was manufactured cheap and was not usually sold in up class society surroundings. Don Facundo was an enterprising wine merchant who had migrated to Cuba from Catalonia during the nineteen’s.

Not being satisfied with the quality, texture and harsh taste of this liquor drink, he tried taming the rum. He came up with different brain waves and unique solutions. He hit upon the idea of straining and filtering his rum drink through charcoal. This helped in removing the impure substance from the rum. Then to add to this, he used oak barrels, for the aging process of his rum drink. This also helped to refine it further and mellowed the drink.

Now the experimenting and initiating stage was over and the rum reached a commercial stage. Slowly and steadily his brother Jose also joint hands in this business and they started their first family commercial endeavor – A shop on February 4, 1962. This shop was a part of a small distillery. They took off with a production of 35 barrels of molasses, per day. This was fermented molasses. Their exclusive and unique bat logo was used on their Bacardi bottles because in those days fruit bats made their homes in their building rafts.

Bacardi is popularly consumed by the old and the young in parties, discs, clubs and pubs. Bacardi Rum can give you some original and unique cocktails and concoctions.
A good mix of short as well as tall cocktails, punches and mixed shots including any of the rum varieties available can give you a great drink.

Red Rum Cocktail – Take two ounces of Rum – Bacardi Superior in a cocktail shaker. Now add one ounce of grenadine syrup. Crush up some ice and fill it in a highball glass. Add two and a half ounces of orange juice. Now empty all the rum mixture in this glass. You may like to garnish your red rum with a citrus slice or a red cherry.

Just as Bacardi Superior Rum is used to make this Bacardi drink, you can use different Bacardi Rums with different ingredients to give you a variety of liquor drinks and drinks mixes. For example you can use – Bacardi 151 Rum, Bacardi Black Rum, and Bacardi Gold Rum Bacardi Limon Rum etc. So indulge in the drinks mixing and enjoy different flavors and colors of Bacardi drinks – But Responsibly.
