Shot drinks have been very popular amongst alcohol lovers across the globe. It can be safely said that the shots trend was started by the very vibrant tequila. While tequila is used quite extensively in cocktails, a tequila shot is one which gets the party going. Drinking the tequila shot in a specific manner has now become a norm. No mad cap party is ever complete without a couple of tequila shot drinks.
But what is the best way to have tequila shots? You have to begin with briefly licking the area between your forefinger and your thumb. Now you should sprinkle a wee bit of salt on the wet area as the saliva will hold it in place there. Take a wedge of lime and hold it in the hand that has the salt. Then comes the moment of truth where you take a deep breath, exhale and down your shot of tequila. Gulp the entire shot down in one go and make sure that you don’t waste any of the alcohol. Once you have done so you need to quickly bite the lime and lick the salt.
The main idea behind having tequila shots with lime and salt ensures that the harshness of the spirit is cut down. It also helps in compensating if you have been using low quality tequila!
The B-52 is another very popular shot drink. It is a liqueur based shot and is creamy and sweet in taste. It is made of 1/3 of a shot of Kahlua which is a coffee liqueur, 1/3rd shot of an almond liqueur such as an amaretto and 1/3rd shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream. All these ingredients are carefully layered one on top of the other in the same order and then had in one gulp.
A clever variation of the B-52 shot drink is the T52. The T-52 recipe contains half an ounce of Kahlua coffee liqueur, half an ounce of rose tequila and half an ounce of the Grand Mariner orange liqueur. These liqueurs are all layers individually in a single shot glass and served.
Jell-O shots are also very popular as shot drinks. To make a Jello Jiggler Shot you will need half a cup of good quality vodka, a large box of jello, two packs of unflavored gelatin and one and one fourth cup of boiling water. The jello and the unflavored gelatin need to be mixed together. To this you should add the boiling water. Once the mix has cooled you should add the vodka to it. Mix and pour into individual shot glasses. You can choose to be as creative as possible and can even serve these shots chilled in fruit moulds.
To make rum jello shot drinks, you should take one cup of Malibu coconut rum, a cup of hot water and one packet of watermelon jello. The hot water and the jello need to be mixed together. Once this has cooled add the coconut rum and pour into individual shot glasses or jelly moulds. Serve once the jello has set.
